1Therefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John2(although Jesus himself didn’t baptize, but his disciples),3he left Judea and departed into Galilee.4He needed to pass through Samaria.5So he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.6Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give|strong="G1325" me|strong="G1325" a|strong="G1325" drink|strong="G4095".”8For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.9The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)10Jesus answered her, “If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G4771" knew|strong="G1492" the|strong="G2532" gift|strong="G1431" of|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316", and|strong="G2532" who|strong="G5101" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" who|strong="G5101" says|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771", ‘Give|strong="G1325" me|strong="G1325" a|strong="G2532" drink|strong="G4095",’ you|strong="G4771" would|strong="G2316" have|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" would|strong="G2316" have|strong="G2532" given|strong="G1325" you|strong="G4771" living|strong="G2198" water|strong="G5204".”11The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. So where do you get that living water?12Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his children and his livestock?”13Jesus answered her, “Everyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" drinks|strong="G4095" of|strong="G1537" this|strong="G3778" water|strong="G5204" will|strong="G2532" thirst|strong="G1372" again|strong="G3825", 14but|strong="G1161" whoever|strong="G3739" drinks|strong="G4095" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G1722" water|strong="G5204" that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G3739" give|strong="G1325" him|strong="G3588" will|strong="G3739" never|strong="G3756" thirst|strong="G1372" again|strong="G1519"; but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1722" water|strong="G5204" that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G3739" give|strong="G1325" him|strong="G3588" will|strong="G3739" become|strong="G1096" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G3588" a|strong="G1096" well|strong="G4077" of|strong="G1537" water|strong="G5204" springing up|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" eternal life|strong="G2222".”15The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I don’t get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw.”16Jesus said to her, “Go|strong="G5217", call|strong="G3004" your|strong="G2532" husband, and|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2064" here|strong="G1759".” 17The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You|strong="G3754" said|strong="G3004" well|strong="G2573", ‘I|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3756" husband,’ 18for|strong="G1063" you|strong="G4771" have|strong="G2192" had|strong="G2192" five|strong="G4002" husbands; and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" whom|strong="G3739" you|strong="G4771" now|strong="G3568" have|strong="G2192" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" your|strong="G2192" husband. This|strong="G3778" you|strong="G4771" have|strong="G2192" said|strong="G3004" truly.”19The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.20Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”21Jesus said to her, “Woman|strong="G1135", believe|strong="G4100" me|strong="G1473", the|strong="G1722" hour|strong="G5610" is|strong="G3588" coming|strong="G2064" when|strong="G3753" neither|strong="G3777" in|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3778" mountain|strong="G3735" nor|strong="G3777" in|strong="G1722" Jerusalem|strong="G2414" will|strong="G1473" you|strong="G3754" worship|strong="G4352" the|strong="G1722" Father|strong="G3962". 22You|strong="G5210" worship|strong="G4352" that|strong="G3754" which|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" don’t|strong="G3588" know|strong="G1492". When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”26Jesus said to her, “I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" he|strong="G3588", the|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" speaks|strong="G2980" to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771".”27Just then, his disciples came. They marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you speak with her?”28So the woman left her water pot, went away into the city, and said to the people,29“Come, see a man who told me everything that I have done. Can this be the Christ?”30They went out of the city, and were coming to him.31In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”32But he said to them, “I|strong="G1473" have|strong="G2192" food|strong="G1035" to|strong="G3004" eat|strong="G2068" that|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" don’t|strong="G3588" know|strong="G1492" about|strong="G3588".”33The disciples therefore said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”34Jesus said to them, “My|strong="G1699" food|strong="G1033" is|strong="G1510" to|strong="G2443" do|strong="G4160" the|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2307" of|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" sent|strong="G3992" me|strong="G1473" and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2443" accomplish|strong="G5048" his|strong="G4160" work|strong="G2041". 35Don’t|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" say|strong="G3004", ‘There|strong="G2532" are|strong="G1510" yet|strong="G2089" four|strong="G5072" months|strong="G5072" until|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" harvest|strong="G2326"’? He stayed there two days.41Many more believed because of his word.42They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”43After the two days he went out from there and went into Galilee.44For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.45So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast.46Jesus came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.48Jesus therefore said to him, “Unless|strong="G1437" you|strong="G1437" people|strong="G3767" see|strong="G3708" signs|strong="G4592" and|strong="G2532" wonders|strong="G5059", you|strong="G1437" will|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" no|strong="G3756" way believe|strong="G4100".”49The nobleman said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”50Jesus said to him, “Go man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.51As he was going down, his servants met him and reported, saying “Your child lives!”52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him.”53So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your believed, as did his whole house.54This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.

Section: III.
