1After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.2A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.3Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.5Jesus therefore, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where|strong="G4159" are|strong="G3588" we|strong="G3754" to|strong="G4314" buy bread, that|strong="G3754" these|strong="G3778" may|strong="G2532" eat|strong="G2068"?”6He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”10Jesus said, “Have there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.11Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down, likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.12When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather|strong="G4863" up|strong="G3361" the|strong="G1161" broken|strong="G2801" pieces|strong="G2801" which|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" left|strong="G4052" over|strong="G4052", that|strong="G2443" nothing|strong="G3361" be|strong="G3361" lost.”13So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.14When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”15Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.17They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.18The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.19When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.20But he said to them, “It|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" I|strong="G1473".Don’t|strong="G3588" be|strong="G1510" afraid|strong="G5399".”21They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.22On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.23However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.24When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.25When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”26Jesus answered them, “Most|strong="G1537" certainly|strong="G2532" I|strong="G1473" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", you|strong="G5210" seek|strong="G2212" me|strong="G1473", not|strong="G3756" because|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" saw|strong="G3708" signs|strong="G4592", but|strong="G2532" because|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" ate|strong="G2068" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" loaves and|strong="G2532" were|strong="G3588" filled|strong="G5526". 27Don’t|strong="G3588" work|strong="G2038" for|strong="G1063" the|strong="G1519" food|strong="G1035" which|strong="G3739" perishes, but|strong="G3361" for|strong="G1063" the|strong="G1519" food|strong="G1035" which|strong="G3739" remains|strong="G3306" to|strong="G1519" eternal life|strong="G2222", which|strong="G3739" the|strong="G1519" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G3778" will|strong="G2316" give|strong="G1325" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G4771". What work do you do?31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”32Jesus therefore said to them, “Most|strong="G1537" certainly|strong="G3756", I|strong="G1473" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", it|strong="G3004" wasn’t|strong="G3588" Moses|strong="G3475" who|strong="G3588" gave|strong="G1325" you|strong="G5210" the|strong="G1537" bread out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" heaven|strong="G3772", but|strong="G3767" my|strong="G1325" Father|strong="G3962" gives|strong="G1325" you|strong="G5210" the|strong="G1537" true|strong="G3588" bread out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" heaven|strong="G3772". 33For|strong="G1063" the|strong="G2532" bread of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" that|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" comes|strong="G2597" down|strong="G2597" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" heaven|strong="G3772" and|strong="G2532" gives|strong="G1325" life|strong="G2222" to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" world|strong="G2889".”34They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”35Jesus said to them, “I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" the|strong="G2532" bread of|strong="G2532" life|strong="G2222".
