World English Bible (with Deuterocanon)

1 When he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was at home. 2 Immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them. 3 Four people came, carrying a paralytic to him. 4 When they could not come near to him for the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on. 5 Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son|strong="G5043", your|strong="G2532" sins are|strong="G3588" forgiven you|strong="G4771".” 6 But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G5210" reason|strong="G1260" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3778" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2532" hearts|strong="G2588"? 9 Which|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" easier|strong="G2123", to|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" the|strong="G2532" paralytic|strong="G3885", ‘Your|strong="G2532" sins are|strong="G1510" forgiven;’ or|strong="G2228" to|strong="G2532" say|strong="G3004", ‘Arise|strong="G1453", and|strong="G2532" take|strong="G2532" up|strong="G1453" your|strong="G2532" bed|strong="G2895", and|strong="G2532" walk|strong="G4043"’? 10 But said to the paralytic— 11 “I|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771", arise|strong="G1453", take|strong="G2532" up|strong="G1453" your|strong="G2532" mat|strong="G2895", and|strong="G2532" go|strong="G5217" to|strong="G1519" your|strong="G2532" house|strong="G3624".” 12 He arose, and immediately took up the mat and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” 13 He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them. 14 As he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. He said to him, “Follow me he arose and followed him. 15 He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him. 16 The scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" healthy|strong="G2480" have|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3756" need|strong="G5532" for|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2192" physician|strong="G2395", but|strong="G2532" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" sick|strong="G2560".
