1He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.2Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”3He answered, “What|strong="G5101" did|strong="G5101" Moses|strong="G3475" command|strong="G1781" you|strong="G5210"?”4They said, “Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.”5But Jesus said to them, “For|strong="G4314" your|strong="G3588" hardness|strong="G4641" of|strong="G2424" heart|strong="G4641", he|strong="G1161" wrote|strong="G1125" you|strong="G5210" this|strong="G3778" commandment|strong="G1785". 6But|strong="G1161" from|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" beginning of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" creation|strong="G2937", God|strong="G2532" made|strong="G4160" them|strong="G1438" male and|strong="G2532" female|strong="G2338".7For|strong="G4314" this|strong="G3778" cause|strong="G1752" a|strong="G2532" man|strong="G3778" will|strong="G2532" leave|strong="G2641" his|strong="G2532" father|strong="G3962" and|strong="G2532" mother|strong="G3384", and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" join|strong="G2532" to|strong="G4314" his|strong="G2532" wife|strong="G1135", 8and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" two|strong="G1417" will|strong="G1510" become|strong="G1510" one|strong="G1520" flesh|strong="G4561",so|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3588" they|strong="G2532" are|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3765" longer|strong="G3765" two|strong="G1417", but|strong="G2532" one|strong="G1520" flesh|strong="G4561". 9What|strong="G3739" therefore|strong="G3767" God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" joined|strong="G4801" together|strong="G4801", let|strong="G5563" no|strong="G3361" man|strong="G3361" separate|strong="G5563".” 10In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter.11He said to them, “Whoever|strong="G3739" divorces his|strong="G1438" wife|strong="G1135" and|strong="G2532" marries|strong="G1060" another|strong="G1438" commits|strong="G3429" adultery|strong="G3429" against|strong="G1909" her|strong="G1438". 12If|strong="G1437" a|strong="G2532" woman herself divorces her|strong="G1437" husband and|strong="G2532" marries|strong="G1060" another|strong="G3588", she|strong="G2532" commits|strong="G3429" adultery|strong="G3429".”13They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.14But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, “Allow the|strong="G2532" little children|strong="G3813" to|strong="G4314" come|strong="G2064" to|strong="G4314" me|strong="G1473"! Don’t|strong="G3588" forbid|strong="G2967" them|strong="G3588", for|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom belongs|strong="G1510" to|strong="G4314" such|strong="G5108" as|strong="G1161" these|strong="G3588". 15Most|strong="G2316" certainly|strong="G3756" I|strong="G3739" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", whoever|strong="G3739" will|strong="G2316" not|strong="G3756" receive|strong="G1209" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom like|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" little child|strong="G3813", he|strong="G3739" will|strong="G2316" in|strong="G1519" no|strong="G3756" way|strong="G5613" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" it|strong="G3739".”16He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.17As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”18Jesus said to him, “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G1487" call|strong="G3004" me|strong="G1473" good|strong="G5101"? No|strong="G3762" one|strong="G1520" is|strong="G3588" good|strong="G5101" except|strong="G1487" one|strong="G1520"—God|strong="G2316". 19You|strong="G4771" know|strong="G1492" the|strong="G2532" commandments|strong="G1785": ‘Do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" murder|strong="G5407",’ ‘Do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" commit|strong="G3431" adultery|strong="G3431",’ ‘Do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" steal|strong="G2813",’ ‘Do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" give|strong="G5576" false|strong="G5576" testimony|strong="G5576",’ ‘Do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" defraud,’ ‘Honor|strong="G5091" your|strong="G5091" father|strong="G3962" and|strong="G2532" mother|strong="G3384".’”20He said to him, “Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth.”21Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, “One|strong="G1520" thing|strong="G1520" you|strong="G4771" lack|strong="G5302". Go|strong="G5217", sell|strong="G4453" whatever|strong="G3745" you|strong="G4771" have|strong="G2192" and|strong="G2532" give|strong="G1325" to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" poor|strong="G4434", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" will|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" treasure|strong="G2344" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772"; and|strong="G2532" come|strong="G1204", follow|strong="G1161" me|strong="G1325", taking|strong="G1325" up|strong="G1325" the|strong="G1722" cross.”22But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How|strong="G4459" difficult it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" for|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2192" riches|strong="G5536" to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s|strong="G2192" Kingdom!”24The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, “Children|strong="G5043", how|strong="G4459" hard|strong="G1422" it|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" for|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" trust in|strong="G1519" riches to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom! 25It|strong="G1223" is|strong="G1510" easier|strong="G2123" for|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1519" camel|strong="G2574" to|strong="G1519" go|strong="G1525" through|strong="G1223" a|strong="G1519" needle|strong="G4476"’s eye|strong="G5168" than|strong="G2228" for|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1519" rich|strong="G4145" man|strong="G4145" to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom.”26They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, “Then who can be saved?”27Jesus, looking at them, said, “With|strong="G3844" men|strong="G3956" it|strong="G1063" is|strong="G3588" impossible|strong="G3756", but|strong="G1063" not|strong="G3756" with|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316", for|strong="G1063" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956" are|strong="G3588" possible|strong="G1415" with|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316".”28Peter began to tell him, “Behold, we have left all and have followed you.”29Jesus said, “Most certainly|strong="G2532" I|strong="G1473" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", there|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" who|strong="G3739" has|strong="G3962" left house|strong="G3614", or|strong="G2228" brothers, or|strong="G2228" sisters, or|strong="G2228" father|strong="G3962", or|strong="G2228" mother|strong="G3384", or|strong="G2228" wife, or|strong="G2228" children|strong="G5043", or|strong="G2228" land, for|strong="G1752" my|strong="G1473" sake|strong="G1752", and|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1752" the|strong="G2532" sake|strong="G1752" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Good|strong="G3588" News|strong="G2098", 30but|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" receive|strong="G2983" one|strong="G3588" hundred|strong="G1542" times|strong="G2540" more|strong="G2532" now|strong="G3568" in|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3778" time|strong="G2540": houses|strong="G3614", brothers, sisters, mothers|strong="G3384", children|strong="G5043", and|strong="G2532" land, with|strong="G3326" persecutions|strong="G1375"; and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" age|strong="G2540" to|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2064" eternal life|strong="G2222". 31But|strong="G1161" many|strong="G4183" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" first|strong="G4413" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" last|strong="G2078", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" last|strong="G2078" first|strong="G4413".”32They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.33“Behold|strong="G2400", we|strong="G3754" are|strong="G3588" going|strong="G2532" up|strong="G3860" to|strong="G1519" Jerusalem|strong="G2414". The|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G1519" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" delivered|strong="G3860" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" chief|strong="G2532" priests and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" scribes|strong="G1122". They|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" condemn|strong="G2632" him|strong="G3588" to|strong="G1519" death|strong="G2288", and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" deliver|strong="G3860" him|strong="G3588" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" Gentiles|strong="G1484". 34They|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" mock|strong="G1702" him|strong="G2532", spit|strong="G1716" on|strong="G3326" him|strong="G2532", scourge|strong="G3146" him|strong="G2532", and|strong="G2532" kill him|strong="G2532". On|strong="G3326" the|strong="G2532" third day|strong="G2250" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" rise|strong="G2250" again|strong="G2532".”35James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask.”36He said to them, “What|strong="G5101" do|strong="G4160" you|strong="G5210" want|strong="G2309" me|strong="G1473" to|strong="G3004" do|strong="G4160" for|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210"?”37They said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left hand, in your glory.”38But Jesus said to them, “You|strong="G3739" don’t|strong="G3588" know|strong="G1492" what|strong="G5101" you|strong="G3739" are|strong="G3588" asking|strong="G3004". Are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3739" able|strong="G1410" to|strong="G3004" drink|strong="G4095" the|strong="G1161" cup|strong="G4221" that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" drink|strong="G4095", and|strong="G1161" to|strong="G3004" be|strong="G3756" baptized with|strong="G3756" the|strong="G1161" baptism that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1473" baptized with|strong="G3756"?”39They said to him, “We are able.” Jesus said to them, “You|strong="G3739" shall|strong="G2532" indeed|strong="G2532" drink|strong="G4095" the|strong="G2532" cup|strong="G4221" that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" drink|strong="G4095", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G3739" shall|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" baptized with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" baptism that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1473" baptized with|strong="G2532"; 40but|strong="G1161" to|strong="G1325" sit|strong="G2523" at|strong="G1537" my|strong="G1699" right|strong="G1188" hand|strong="G1188" and|strong="G1161" at|strong="G1537" my|strong="G1699" left|strong="G2176" hand|strong="G1188" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" mine|strong="G1699" to|strong="G1325" give|strong="G1325", but|strong="G1161" for|strong="G1161" whom|strong="G3739" it|strong="G1161" has|strong="G3739" been|strong="G1510" prepared|strong="G2090".”41When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward James and John.42Jesus summoned them and said to them, “You|strong="G3754" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" recognized|strong="G1380" as|strong="G2532" rulers over|strong="G2634" the|strong="G2532" nations|strong="G1484" lord|strong="G3588" it|strong="G2532" over|strong="G2634" them|strong="G3588", and|strong="G2532" their|strong="G1438" great|strong="G3173" ones|strong="G3748" exercise|strong="G2715" authority|strong="G2715" over|strong="G2634" them|strong="G3588". 43But|strong="G1161" it|strong="G1161" shall|strong="G3739" not|strong="G3756" be|strong="G1096" so|strong="G3779" among|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210", but|strong="G1161" whoever|strong="G3739" wants|strong="G2309" to|strong="G2309" become|strong="G1096" great|strong="G3173" among|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210" shall|strong="G3739" be|strong="G1096" your|strong="G1722" servant|strong="G1249". 44Whoever|strong="G3739" of|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" wants|strong="G2309" to|strong="G2532" become|strong="G1096" first|strong="G4413" among|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210" shall|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" bondservant of|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956". 45For|strong="G1063" the|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G3756" also|strong="G2532" came|strong="G2064" not|strong="G3756" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" served|strong="G1247" but|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" serve|strong="G1247", and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" give|strong="G1325" his|strong="G2532" life|strong="G5590" as|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" ransom|strong="G3083" for|strong="G1063" many|strong="G4183".”46They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.47When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”48Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”49Jesus stood still and said, “Call|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588".” They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!”50He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.51Jesus asked him, “What|strong="G5101" do|strong="G4160" you|strong="G4771" want|strong="G2309" me|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2443" do|strong="G4160" for|strong="G1161" you|strong="G4771"?” The blind man said to him, “Rabboni, that I may see again.”52Jesus said to him, “Go he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.
