Matthew 13

1 On that day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the seaside. 2 Great multitudes gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach. 3 He spoke to them many things in parables, saying, “Behold|strong="G2400", a|strong="G2532" farmer went|strong="G1831" out|strong="G1831" to|strong="G2532" sow|strong="G4687". 4 As|strong="G1722" he|strong="G2532" sowed|strong="G4687", some|strong="G3739" seeds fell|strong="G4098" by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" roadside, and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" birds|strong="G4071" came|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" devoured|strong="G2719" them|strong="G3588". 5 Others|strong="G3588" fell|strong="G4098" on|strong="G1909" rocky|strong="G4075" ground|strong="G1093", where|strong="G3699" they|strong="G2532" didn’t|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2192" much|strong="G4183" soil|strong="G1093", and|strong="G2532" immediately|strong="G2112" they|strong="G2532" sprang|strong="G1816" up|strong="G3361", because|strong="G1223" they|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3756" depth of|strong="G1223" earth|strong="G1093". 6 When|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" sun|strong="G2246" had|strong="G2192" risen|strong="G2532", they|strong="G2532" were|strong="G3588" scorched|strong="G2739". Because|strong="G1223" they|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3361" root|strong="G4491", they|strong="G2532" withered|strong="G3583" away|strong="G3583". 7 Others|strong="G3588" fell|strong="G4098" among|strong="G1909" thorns. The|strong="G2532" thorns grew up|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" choked|strong="G4155" them|strong="G3588". 8 Others|strong="G3588" fell|strong="G4098" on|strong="G1909" good|strong="G2570" soil|strong="G1093" and|strong="G2532" yielded|strong="G1325" fruit|strong="G2590": some|strong="G3739" one|strong="G3739" hundred|strong="G1540" times as|strong="G1161" much, some|strong="G3739" sixty|strong="G1835", and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3739" thirty|strong="G5144". 9 He|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" has|strong="G2192" ears|strong="G3775" to|strong="G2192" hear, let|strong="G2192" him|strong="G3588" hear.” 10 The disciples came, and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” 11 He answered them, “To|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" it|strong="G3754" is|strong="G3588" given|strong="G1325" to|strong="G3004" know|strong="G1097" the|strong="G1161" mysteries|strong="G3466" of|strong="G3466" the|strong="G1161" Kingdom of|strong="G3466" Heaven|strong="G3772", but|strong="G1161" it|strong="G3754" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" given|strong="G1325" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G3588". 12 For|strong="G1063" whoever|strong="G3739" has|strong="G2192", to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G1325" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" given|strong="G1325", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" abundance|strong="G4052"; but|strong="G1161" whoever|strong="G3739" doesn’t have|strong="G2192", from|strong="G2532" him|strong="G1325" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" taken away even|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" which|strong="G3739" he|strong="G2532" has|strong="G2192". 13 Therefore|strong="G1223" I|strong="G2532" speak|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2532" them|strong="G1722" in|strong="G1722" parables|strong="G3850", because|strong="G3754" seeing|strong="G3754" they|strong="G2532" don’t see, and|strong="G2532" hearing, they|strong="G2532" don’t hear, neither|strong="G3761" do|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" understand|strong="G4920". 14 In|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" prophecy|strong="G4394" of|strong="G2532" Isaiah|strong="G2268" is|strong="G3588" fulfilled, which|strong="G3588" says|strong="G3004", ‘By|strong="G2532" hearing you|strong="G3004" will|strong="G2532" hear, and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" no|strong="G3756" way understand|strong="G4920"; Seeing|strong="G3708" you|strong="G3004" will|strong="G2532" see|strong="G3708", and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" no|strong="G3756" way perceive|strong="G3708"; 15 for|strong="G1063" this|strong="G3778" people|strong="G2992"’s heart|strong="G2588" has|strong="G3778" grown callous, their|strong="G1438" ears|strong="G3775" are|strong="G3588" dull|strong="G3975" of|strong="G2532" hearing|strong="G3775", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" closed|strong="G2576" their|strong="G1438" eyes|strong="G3788"; or|strong="G2532" else|strong="G2532" perhaps|strong="G3379" they|strong="G2532" might|strong="G2532" perceive|strong="G3708" with|strong="G2532" their|strong="G1438" eyes|strong="G3788", hear with|strong="G2532" their|strong="G1438" ears|strong="G3775", understand|strong="G4920" with|strong="G2532" their|strong="G1438" heart|strong="G2588", and|strong="G2532" would|strong="G2532" turn|strong="G1994" again|strong="G1994", and|strong="G2532" I|strong="G2532" would|strong="G2532" heal|strong="G2390" them|strong="G3588".’ 16 “But|strong="G1161" blessed|strong="G3107" are|strong="G3588" your|strong="G2532" eyes|strong="G3788", for|strong="G3754" they|strong="G2532" see; and|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" ears|strong="G3775", for|strong="G3754" they|strong="G2532" hear. 17 For|strong="G1063" most|strong="G4183" certainly|strong="G1063" I|strong="G3739" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" that|strong="G3754" many|strong="G4183" prophets|strong="G4396" and|strong="G2532" righteous|strong="G1342" men|strong="G1342" desired|strong="G1937" to|strong="G2532" see|strong="G3708" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G4183" which|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" see|strong="G3708", and|strong="G2532" didn’t see|strong="G3708" them|strong="G3739"; and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" hear the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G4183" which|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" hear, and|strong="G2532" didn’t hear them|strong="G3739". 18 “Hear, then|strong="G3767", the|strong="G3588" parable|strong="G3850" of|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" farmer. 19 When|strong="G2532" anyone|strong="G3956" hears the|strong="G1722" word|strong="G3056" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G1722" Kingdom and|strong="G2532" doesn’t|strong="G3588" understand|strong="G4920" it|strong="G2532", the|strong="G1722" evil|strong="G4190" one|strong="G3956" comes|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" snatches away that|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" has|strong="G3778" been|strong="G1510" sown|strong="G4687" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G3956" heart|strong="G2588". This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" what|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" sown|strong="G4687" by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" roadside. 20 What|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" sown|strong="G4687" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" rocky|strong="G4075" places, this|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" hears the|strong="G2532" word|strong="G3056" and|strong="G2532" immediately|strong="G2112" with|strong="G3326" joy|strong="G5479" receives|strong="G2983" it|strong="G2532"; 21 yet|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" has|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3756" root|strong="G4491" in|strong="G1722" himself|strong="G1438", but|strong="G1161" endures for|strong="G1223" a|strong="G2192" while|strong="G1722". When|strong="G1161" oppression or|strong="G2228" persecution|strong="G1375" arises|strong="G1096" because|strong="G1223" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G1722" word|strong="G3056", immediately|strong="G2112" he|strong="G1161" stumbles. 22 What|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" sown|strong="G4687" among|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" thorns, this|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" hears the|strong="G2532" word|strong="G3056", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" cares|strong="G3308" of|strong="G3056" this|strong="G3778" age and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" deceitfulness of|strong="G3056" riches|strong="G4149" choke|strong="G4846" the|strong="G2532" word|strong="G3056", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" becomes|strong="G1096" unfruitful. 23 What|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510" sown|strong="G4687" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" good|strong="G2570" ground|strong="G1093", this|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3739" hears the|strong="G2532" word|strong="G3056" and|strong="G2532" understands|strong="G4920" it|strong="G2532", who|strong="G3739" most certainly|strong="G1909" bears|strong="G4160" fruit|strong="G2592" and|strong="G2532" produces|strong="G4160", some|strong="G3739" one|strong="G3739" hundred|strong="G1540" times as|strong="G1161" much, some|strong="G3739" sixty|strong="G1835", and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3739" thirty|strong="G5144".” 24 He set another parable before them, saying, “The|strong="G1722" Kingdom of|strong="G1722" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G3588" like|strong="G3666" a|strong="G1722" man who|strong="G3588" sowed|strong="G4687" good|strong="G2570" seed|strong="G4690" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" field, 25 but|strong="G1161" while|strong="G1722" people|strong="G3588" slept|strong="G2518", his|strong="G1722" enemy|strong="G2190" came|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" sowed|strong="G4687" darnel weeds|strong="G2215" also|strong="G2532" among|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" wheat|strong="G4621", and|strong="G2532" went|strong="G2064" away. 26 But|strong="G1161" when|strong="G3753" the|strong="G2532" blade|strong="G5528" sprang up|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" produced|strong="G4160" grain|strong="G2590", then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" darnel weeds|strong="G2215" appeared|strong="G5316" also|strong="G2532". 27 The|strong="G1722" servants|strong="G1401" of|strong="G2962" the|strong="G1722" householder|strong="G3617" came|strong="G4334" and|strong="G1161" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588", ‘Sir|strong="G2962", didn’t|strong="G3588" you|strong="G1722" sow|strong="G4687" good|strong="G2570" seed|strong="G4690" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G4674" field? Where|strong="G4159" did|strong="G3767" these|strong="G3588" darnel weeds|strong="G2215" come|strong="G4334" from|strong="G3588"?’ 28 “He|strong="G1161" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G3588", ‘An|strong="G4160" enemy|strong="G2190" has|strong="G3778" done|strong="G4160" this|strong="G3778".’ “The|strong="G1161" servants|strong="G1401" asked|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588", ‘Do|strong="G4160" you|strong="G3004" want|strong="G2309" us|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" go|strong="G2309" and|strong="G1161" gather|strong="G4816" them|strong="G3588" up|strong="G4816"?’ 29 “But|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" said|strong="G5346", ‘No|strong="G3756", lest|strong="G3379" perhaps|strong="G3379" while|strong="G1161" you gather|strong="G4816" up|strong="G4816" the|strong="G1161" darnel weeds|strong="G2215", you root up|strong="G4816" the|strong="G1161" wheat|strong="G4621" with|strong="G3756" them|strong="G3588". 30 Let|strong="G1161" both|strong="G2532" grow|strong="G4885" together|strong="G4863" until|strong="G3360" the|strong="G1722" harvest|strong="G2326", and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" harvest|strong="G2326" time|strong="G2540" I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" the|strong="G1722" reapers|strong="G2327", “First|strong="G4413", gather|strong="G4863" up|strong="G1210" the|strong="G1722" darnel weeds|strong="G2215", and|strong="G2532" bind|strong="G1210" them|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" bundles|strong="G1197" to|strong="G1519" burn|strong="G2618" them|strong="G3588"; but|strong="G1161" gather|strong="G4863" the|strong="G1722" wheat|strong="G4621" into|strong="G1519" my|strong="G1722" barn.”’” 31 He set another parable before them, saying, “The|strong="G1722" Kingdom of|strong="G1722" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G1722" grain|strong="G2848" of|strong="G1722" mustard|strong="G4615" seed|strong="G2848" which|strong="G3739" a|strong="G1722" man|strong="G3739" took|strong="G2983", and|strong="G3772" sowed|strong="G4687" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" field, 32 which|strong="G3739" indeed|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" smaller|strong="G3398" than|strong="G3173" all|strong="G3956" seeds|strong="G4690". But|strong="G1161" when|strong="G3752" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" grown|strong="G3173", it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" greater|strong="G3173" than|strong="G3173" the|strong="G1722" herbs|strong="G3001" and|strong="G2532" becomes|strong="G1096" a|strong="G1096" tree|strong="G1186", so|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" the|strong="G1722" birds|strong="G4071" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" air|strong="G3772" come|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" lodge|strong="G2681" in|strong="G1722" its|strong="G3956" branches|strong="G2798".” 33 He spoke another parable to them. “The|strong="G1519" Kingdom of|strong="G3588" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" yeast|strong="G2219" which|strong="G3739" a|strong="G1519" woman|strong="G1135" took|strong="G2983" and|strong="G3772" hid|strong="G1470" in|strong="G1519" three|strong="G5140" measures|strong="G4568" of|strong="G3588" meal, until|strong="G2193" it|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510" all|strong="G3650" leavened|strong="G2220".” 34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them, 35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,
“I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.” 36 Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel weeds of the field.” 37 He answered them, “He|strong="G1161" who|strong="G3588" sows|strong="G4687" the|strong="G1161" good|strong="G2570" seed|strong="G4690" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G5207", 38 the|strong="G1161" field is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" world|strong="G2889", the|strong="G1161" good|strong="G2570" seeds|strong="G4690" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" children|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G1161" Kingdom, and|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1161" darnel weeds|strong="G2215" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" children|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G1161" evil|strong="G4190" one|strong="G3588". 39 The|strong="G1161" enemy|strong="G2190" who|strong="G3588" sowed|strong="G4687" them|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" devil|strong="G1228". The|strong="G1161" harvest|strong="G2326" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" end|strong="G4930" of|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1161" age, and|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1161" reapers|strong="G2327" are|strong="G1510" angels. 40 As|strong="G5618" therefore|strong="G3767" the|strong="G1722" darnel weeds|strong="G2215" are|strong="G1510" gathered|strong="G4816" up|strong="G2618" and|strong="G2532" burned|strong="G2618" with|strong="G1722" fire|strong="G4442"; so|strong="G3779" will|strong="G1510" it|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1510" at|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" end|strong="G4930" of|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3588" age. 41 The|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G1537" Man|strong="G3956" will|strong="G2532" send out|strong="G1537" his|strong="G3956" angels, and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" gather|strong="G4816" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G3956" Kingdom all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3588" cause|strong="G4160" stumbling|strong="G4625" and|strong="G2532" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" do|strong="G4160" iniquity, 42 and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" cast|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3588" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" furnace|strong="G2575" of|strong="G2532" fire|strong="G4442". There|strong="G1563" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" weeping|strong="G2805" and|strong="G2532" gnashing|strong="G1030" of|strong="G2532" teeth|strong="G3599". 43 Then|strong="G5119" the|strong="G1722" righteous|strong="G1342" will|strong="G3962" shine|strong="G1584" like|strong="G5613" the|strong="G1722" sun|strong="G2246" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" Kingdom of|strong="G3962" their|strong="G1722" Father|strong="G3962". He|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" has|strong="G2192" ears|strong="G3775" to|strong="G1722" hear, let|strong="G2192" him|strong="G3588" hear. 44 “Again|strong="G2532", the|strong="G1722" Kingdom of|strong="G2532" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" treasure|strong="G2344" hidden|strong="G2928" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" field, which|strong="G3739" a|strong="G2192" man|strong="G3956" found|strong="G2147" and|strong="G2532" hid|strong="G2928". In|strong="G1722" his|strong="G3956" joy|strong="G5479", he|strong="G2532" goes|strong="G5217" and|strong="G2532" sells|strong="G4453" all|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3739" he|strong="G2532" has|strong="G2192" and|strong="G2532" buys that|strong="G3739" field. 45 “Again|strong="G3825", the|strong="G3588" Kingdom of|strong="G3588" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G1510" man who|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" merchant|strong="G1713" seeking|strong="G2212" fine|strong="G2570" pearls|strong="G3135", 46 who|strong="G3956" having|strong="G2192" found|strong="G2147" one|strong="G1520" pearl|strong="G3135" of|strong="G2532" great|strong="G3956" price, he|strong="G2532" went|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" sold|strong="G4097" all|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3956" he|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2192" and|strong="G2532" bought it|strong="G2532". 47 “Again|strong="G3825", the|strong="G2532" Kingdom of|strong="G1537" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G2532" dragnet|strong="G4522" that|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" cast|strong="G2532" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" sea|strong="G2281" and|strong="G2532" gathered|strong="G4863" some|strong="G3588" fish of|strong="G1537" every|strong="G3956" kind|strong="G3956", 48 which|strong="G3739", when|strong="G3753" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" filled|strong="G4137", fishermen drew|strong="G2532" up|strong="G1519" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" beach. They|strong="G2532" sat|strong="G2523" down|strong="G2523" and|strong="G2532" gathered|strong="G4816" the|strong="G2532" good|strong="G2570" into|strong="G1519" containers, but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" bad|strong="G4550" they|strong="G2532" threw away|strong="G1854". 49 So|strong="G3779" it|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" end|strong="G4930" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G1722" world. The|strong="G1722" angels will|strong="G1510" come|strong="G1831" and|strong="G2532" separate the|strong="G1722" wicked|strong="G4190" from|strong="G1537" among|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" righteous|strong="G1342", 50 and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" cast|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3588" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" furnace|strong="G2575" of|strong="G2532" fire|strong="G4442". There|strong="G1563" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" weeping|strong="G2805" and|strong="G2532" gnashing|strong="G1030" of|strong="G2532" teeth|strong="G3599".” 51 Jesus said to them, “Have|strong="G3956" you|strong="G3004" understood|strong="G4920" all|strong="G3956" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3956"?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.” 52 He said to them, “Therefore|strong="G1223" every|strong="G3956" scribe|strong="G1122" who|strong="G3588" has|strong="G3778" been|strong="G1510" made|strong="G1161" a|strong="G2532" disciple|strong="G3100" in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Kingdom of|strong="G1537" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G2532" man|strong="G3778" who|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G2532" householder|strong="G3617", who|strong="G3588" brings|strong="G1544" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G3956" treasure|strong="G2344" new|strong="G2537" and|strong="G2532" old|strong="G3820" things|strong="G3956".” 53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there. 54 Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56 Aren’t all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?” 57 They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, “A|strong="G2532" prophet|strong="G4396" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" without|strong="G3361" honor, except|strong="G1487" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" own|strong="G2398" country|strong="G3968" and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" own|strong="G2398" house|strong="G3614".” 58 He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
