Matthew 22

1 Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “The|strong="G3588" Kingdom of|strong="G5207" Heaven|strong="G3772" is|strong="G3588" like|strong="G3666" a|strong="G4160" certain king|strong="G3588", who|strong="G3588" made|strong="G4160" a|strong="G4160" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062" for|strong="G4160" his|strong="G4160" son|strong="G5207", 3 and|strong="G2532" sent|strong="G2532" out|strong="G2532" his|strong="G1519" servants|strong="G1401" to|strong="G1519" call|strong="G2564" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G3588" invited|strong="G2564" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062", but|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" would|strong="G2309" not|strong="G3756" come|strong="G2064". 4 Again|strong="G3825" he|strong="G2532" sent|strong="G2532" out|strong="G2532" other|strong="G3825" servants|strong="G1401", saying|strong="G3004", ‘Tell|strong="G3004" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" invited|strong="G2564", “Behold|strong="G2400", I|strong="G1473" have|strong="G2532" prepared|strong="G2090" my|strong="G3708" dinner. My|strong="G3708" cattle and|strong="G2532" my|strong="G3708" fatlings|strong="G4619" are|strong="G3588" killed|strong="G2380", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956" are|strong="G3588" ready|strong="G2092". Come|strong="G1205" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062"!”’ 5 But|strong="G1161" they|strong="G1161" made|strong="G1161" light of|strong="G1909" it|strong="G1161", and|strong="G1161" went|strong="G3588" their|strong="G1519" ways, one|strong="G3739" to|strong="G1519" his|strong="G1519" own|strong="G2398" farm, another|strong="G3739" to|strong="G1519" his|strong="G1519" merchandise|strong="G1711"; 6 and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" rest|strong="G3062" grabbed his|strong="G2532" servants|strong="G1401", treated them|strong="G3588" shamefully, and|strong="G2532" killed them|strong="G3588". 7 When|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" king|strong="G3588" heard that|strong="G3588", he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" angry|strong="G3710", and|strong="G2532" sent|strong="G3992" his|strong="G2532" armies|strong="G4753", destroyed those|strong="G3588" murderers|strong="G5406", and|strong="G2532" burned their|strong="G2532" city|strong="G4172". 8 “Then|strong="G5119" he|strong="G1161" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" his|strong="G2564" servants|strong="G1401", ‘The|strong="G1161" wedding|strong="G1062" is|strong="G1510" ready|strong="G2092", but|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G1510" invited|strong="G2564" weren’t|strong="G3588" worthy. 9 Go|strong="G4198" therefore|strong="G3767" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" intersections of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" highways|strong="G3598", and|strong="G2532" as|strong="G3745" many|strong="G3745" as|strong="G3745" you|strong="G1437" may|strong="G2532" find|strong="G2147", invite|strong="G2564" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062".’ 10 Those|strong="G3588" servants|strong="G1401" went|strong="G1831" out|strong="G1831" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" highways|strong="G3598" and|strong="G2532" gathered|strong="G4863" together|strong="G4863" as|strong="G3745" many|strong="G3745" as|strong="G3745" they|strong="G2532" found|strong="G2147", both|strong="G2532" bad|strong="G4190" and|strong="G2532" good|strong="G3956". The|strong="G2532" wedding|strong="G1062" was|strong="G3588" filled|strong="G4130" with|strong="G2532" guests. 11 “But|strong="G1161" when|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1161" king|strong="G3588" came|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1525" to|strong="G3756" see|strong="G3708" the|strong="G1161" guests, he|strong="G1161" saw|strong="G3708" there|strong="G1563" a|strong="G3708" man|strong="G3756" who|strong="G3588" didn’t|strong="G3588" have|strong="G3588" on|strong="G1746" wedding|strong="G1062" clothing|strong="G1742", 12 and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588", ‘Friend|strong="G2083", how|strong="G4459" did|strong="G2532" you|strong="G3004" come|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1525" here|strong="G5602" not|strong="G3361" wearing wedding|strong="G1062" clothing|strong="G1742"?’ He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" speechless|strong="G5392". 13 Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" king|strong="G3588" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" servants|strong="G1249", ‘Bind|strong="G1210" him|strong="G3588" hand|strong="G5495" and|strong="G2532" foot|strong="G4228", take|strong="G1544" him|strong="G3588" away|strong="G1544", and|strong="G2532" throw|strong="G1544" him|strong="G3588" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" outer|strong="G1857" darkness|strong="G4655". That|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" where|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" weeping|strong="G2805" and|strong="G2532" grinding of|strong="G2532" teeth|strong="G3599" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510".’ 14 For|strong="G1063" many|strong="G4183" are|strong="G1510" called|strong="G2822", but|strong="G1161" few|strong="G3641" chosen|strong="G1588".” 15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk. 16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach; for you aren’t partial to anyone. 17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G3004" test|strong="G3985" me|strong="G1473", you|strong="G3004" hypocrites|strong="G5273"? 19 Show|strong="G1925" me|strong="G1473" the|strong="G1161" tax money|strong="G3546".” They brought to him a denarius. 20 He asked them, “Whose|strong="G5101" is|strong="G3588" this|strong="G3778" image|strong="G1504" and|strong="G2532" inscription|strong="G1923"?” 21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give|strong="G3004" therefore|strong="G3767" to|strong="G2532" Caesar|strong="G2541" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G3588" that|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" Caesar|strong="G2541"’s, and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G3588" that|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316"’s.” 22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him and went away. 23 On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.’ 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother. 26 In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh. 27 After them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.” 29 But Jesus answered them, “You|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" mistaken|strong="G4105", not|strong="G3361" knowing|strong="G1492" the|strong="G1161" Scriptures|strong="G1124", nor|strong="G3366" the|strong="G1161" power|strong="G1411" of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316". 30 For|strong="G1063" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" resurrection they|strong="G3588" neither|strong="G3777" marry|strong="G1060" nor|strong="G3777" are|strong="G1510" given|strong="G1061" in|strong="G1722" marriage|strong="G1061", but|strong="G1063" are|strong="G1510" like|strong="G5613" God|strong="G2316"’s angels in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772". 31 But|strong="G1161" concerning|strong="G4012" the|strong="G1161" resurrection of|strong="G4012" the|strong="G1161" dead|strong="G3498", haven’t|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" read that|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" was|strong="G3588" spoken|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" by|strong="G5259" God|strong="G2316", saying|strong="G3004", 32 ‘I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" the|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2532" Abraham, and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2532" Isaac|strong="G2464", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2532" Jacob|strong="G2384"’? God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" the|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" dead|strong="G3498", but|strong="G2532" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" living|strong="G2198".” 33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. 34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You|strong="G4771" shall|strong="G2532" love the|strong="G1722" Lord|strong="G2962" your|strong="G3650" God|strong="G2316" with|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G3650" heart|strong="G2588", with|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G3650" soul|strong="G5590", and|strong="G2532" with|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G3650" mind|strong="G1271".’ 38 This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G2532" first|strong="G4413" and|strong="G2532" great|strong="G3173" commandment|strong="G1785". 39 A|strong="G5613" second|strong="G1208" likewise|strong="G1161" is|strong="G3588" this|strong="G3588", ‘You|strong="G4771" shall|strong="G3588" love your|strong="G3588" neighbor|strong="G4139" as|strong="G5613" yourself|strong="G4572".’ 40 The|strong="G1722" whole|strong="G3650" law|strong="G3551" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" prophets|strong="G4396" depend|strong="G2910" on|strong="G1722" these|strong="G3778" two|strong="G1417" commandments|strong="G1785".” 41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, 42 saying, “What|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G5210" think|strong="G1380" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G3588" Christ|strong="G5547"? Whose|strong="G5101" son|strong="G5207" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G3588"?” They said to him, “Of David.” 43 He said to them, “How|strong="G4459" then|strong="G3767" does|strong="G3004" David|strong="G1138" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" Spirit|strong="G4151" call|strong="G2564" him|strong="G2564" Lord|strong="G2962", saying|strong="G3004", 44 ‘The|strong="G1537" Lord|strong="G2962" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" my|strong="G5087" Lord|strong="G2962", sit|strong="G2521" on|strong="G1537" my|strong="G5087" right|strong="G1188" hand|strong="G1188", until|strong="G2193" I|strong="G1473" make|strong="G5087" your|strong="G2962" enemies|strong="G2190" a|strong="G5087" footstool for|strong="G1537" your|strong="G2962" feet|strong="G4228"’? 45 “If|strong="G1487" then|strong="G3767" David|strong="G1138" calls|strong="G2564" him|strong="G2564" Lord|strong="G2962", how|strong="G4459" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G1487" his|strong="G2564" son|strong="G5207"?” 46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
