Luke 18

1 He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray and not give up, 2 saying, “There|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" a|strong="G2532" judge|strong="G2923" in|strong="G1722" a|strong="G2532" certain|strong="G5100" city|strong="G4172" who|strong="G3588" didn’t|strong="G3588" fear|strong="G5399" God|strong="G2316" and|strong="G2532" didn’t|strong="G3588" respect|strong="G1788" man|strong="G5100". 3 A|strong="G2532" widow|strong="G5503" was|strong="G1510" in|strong="G1722" that|strong="G3588" city|strong="G4172", and|strong="G2532" she|strong="G2532" often came|strong="G2064" to|strong="G4314" him|strong="G3588", saying|strong="G3004", ‘Defend me|strong="G1473" from|strong="G2064" my|strong="G1722" adversary!’ 4 He|strong="G2532" wouldn’t|strong="G3588" for|strong="G1909" a|strong="G2532" while|strong="G1722"; but|strong="G1161" afterward|strong="G3326" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2532" himself|strong="G1438", ‘Though|strong="G1487" I|strong="G2532" neither|strong="G3761" fear|strong="G5399" God|strong="G2316" nor|strong="G3761" respect|strong="G1788" man|strong="G3778", 5 yet|strong="G1065" because|strong="G1223" this|strong="G3778" widow|strong="G5503" bothers|strong="G3930" me|strong="G1473", I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G1473" defend her|strong="G1438", or|strong="G3361" else|strong="G3361" she|strong="G2443" will|strong="G1473" wear|strong="G5299" me|strong="G1473" out|strong="G2064" by|strong="G1223" her|strong="G1438" continual|strong="G5056" coming|strong="G2064".’” 6 The Lord said, “Listen to|strong="G3004" what|strong="G5101" the|strong="G1161" unrighteous judge|strong="G2923" says|strong="G3004". 7 Won’t|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" avenge|strong="G1557" his|strong="G1909" chosen|strong="G1588" ones who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" crying out|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588" day|strong="G2250" and|strong="G2532" night|strong="G3571", and|strong="G2532" yet|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" exercises|strong="G4160" patience|strong="G3114" with|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3588"? 8 I|strong="G3754" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G3754" will|strong="G1093" avenge|strong="G1557" them|strong="G3588" quickly|strong="G5034". Nevertheless|strong="G4133", when|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G5207" comes|strong="G2064", will|strong="G1093" he|strong="G3754" find|strong="G2147" faith|strong="G4102" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G1722" earth|strong="G1093"?” 9 He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others: 10 “Two|strong="G1417" men|strong="G1417" went|strong="G2532" up|strong="G1519" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" temple|strong="G2411" to|strong="G1519" pray|strong="G4336"; one|strong="G1520" was|strong="G3588" a|strong="G2532" Pharisee|strong="G5330", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" other|strong="G2087" was|strong="G3588" a|strong="G2532" tax|strong="G5057" collector|strong="G5057". 11 The|strong="G2532" Pharisee|strong="G5330" stood|strong="G2476" and|strong="G2532" prayed|strong="G4336" by|strong="G4314" himself|strong="G1438" like|strong="G5613" this|strong="G3778": ‘God|strong="G2316", I|strong="G2532" thank|strong="G2168" you|strong="G4771" that|strong="G3754" I|strong="G2532" am|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" like|strong="G5613" the|strong="G2532" rest|strong="G3062" of|strong="G2532" men|strong="G3778": extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers|strong="G3432", or|strong="G2228" even|strong="G2532" like|strong="G5613" this|strong="G3778" tax|strong="G5057" collector|strong="G5057". 12 I|strong="G3745" fast|strong="G3522" twice|strong="G1364" a|strong="G2932" week|strong="G4521". I|strong="G3745" give|strong="G3956" tithes of|strong="G3956" all|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3588" I|strong="G3745" get|strong="G2932".’ 13 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1519" tax|strong="G5057" collector|strong="G5057", standing|strong="G2476" far|strong="G3113" away|strong="G3113", wouldn’t|strong="G3588" even|strong="G3761" lift|strong="G1869" up|strong="G1869" his|strong="G1519" eyes|strong="G3788" to|strong="G1519" heaven|strong="G3772", but|strong="G1161" beat|strong="G5180" his|strong="G1519" chest|strong="G4738", saying|strong="G3004", ‘God|strong="G2316", be|strong="G3756" merciful|strong="G2433" to|strong="G1519" me|strong="G1473", a|strong="G1519" sinner!’ 14 I|strong="G1161" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" went|strong="G2597" down|strong="G2597" to|strong="G1519" his|strong="G1438" house|strong="G3624" justified|strong="G1344" rather|strong="G2228" than|strong="G2228" the|strong="G1519" other|strong="G1161"; for|strong="G1063" everyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" exalts|strong="G5312" himself|strong="G1438" will|strong="G3778" be|strong="G3956" humbled|strong="G5013", but|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" who|strong="G3588" humbles|strong="G5013" himself|strong="G1438" will|strong="G3778" be|strong="G3956" exalted|strong="G5312".” 15 They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the|strong="G2532" little children|strong="G3813" to|strong="G4314" come|strong="G2064" to|strong="G4314" me|strong="G1473", and|strong="G2532" don’t|strong="G3588" hinder|strong="G2967" them|strong="G3588", for|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom belongs|strong="G1510" to|strong="G4314" such|strong="G5108" as|strong="G1161" these|strong="G3588". 17 Most|strong="G2316" certainly|strong="G3756", I|strong="G3739" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", whoever|strong="G3739" doesn’t|strong="G3588" receive|strong="G1209" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom like|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" little child|strong="G3813", he|strong="G3739" will|strong="G2316" in|strong="G1519" no|strong="G3756" way|strong="G5613" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" it|strong="G3739".” 18 A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 Jesus asked him, “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G1487" call|strong="G3004" me|strong="G1473" good|strong="G5101"? No|strong="G3762" one|strong="G1520" is|strong="G3588" good|strong="G5101", except|strong="G1487" one|strong="G1520": God|strong="G2316". 20 You|strong="G4771" know|strong="G1492" the|strong="G2532" commandments|strong="G1785": ‘Don’t|strong="G3588" commit|strong="G3431" adultery|strong="G3431",’ ‘Don’t|strong="G3588" murder|strong="G5407",’ ‘Don’t|strong="G3588" steal|strong="G2813",’ ‘Don’t|strong="G3588" give|strong="G5576" false|strong="G5576" testimony|strong="G5576",’ ‘Honor|strong="G5091" your|strong="G5091" father|strong="G3962" and|strong="G2532" your|strong="G5091" mother|strong="G3384".’” 21 He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.” 22 When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You|strong="G4771" still|strong="G2089" lack|strong="G3007" one|strong="G1520" thing|strong="G1520". Sell|strong="G4453" all|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G4771" have|strong="G2192" and|strong="G2532" distribute|strong="G1239" it|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" poor|strong="G4434". Then|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" will|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" treasure|strong="G2344" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772"; then|strong="G2532" come|strong="G1204", follow|strong="G1161" me|strong="G1473".” 23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich. 24 Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, “How|strong="G4459" hard|strong="G1423" it|strong="G1161" is|strong="G3588" for|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2192" riches|strong="G5536" to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1531" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s|strong="G2192" Kingdom! 25 For|strong="G1063" it|strong="G1063" is|strong="G1510" easier|strong="G2123" for|strong="G1063" a|strong="G1519" camel|strong="G2574" to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1519" through|strong="G1223" a|strong="G1519" needle’s eye than|strong="G2228" for|strong="G1063" a|strong="G1519" rich|strong="G4145" man|strong="G4145" to|strong="G1519" enter|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom.” 26 Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” 27 But he said, “The|strong="G1161" things|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" impossible with|strong="G3844" men|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" possible|strong="G1415" with|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316".” 28 Peter said, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.” 29 He said to them, “Most|strong="G2316" certainly I|strong="G3739" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210", there|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" who|strong="G3739" has|strong="G2316" left house|strong="G3614", or|strong="G2228" wife|strong="G1135", or|strong="G2228" brothers, or|strong="G2228" parents|strong="G1118", or|strong="G2228" children|strong="G5043", for|strong="G1752" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom’s sake|strong="G1752", 30 who|strong="G3739" will|strong="G2532" not|strong="G3361" receive many|strong="G4179" times|strong="G2540" more|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3778" time|strong="G2540", and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" world to|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2064", eternal life|strong="G2222".” 31 He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold|strong="G2400", we|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3588" going|strong="G2532" up|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" Jerusalem|strong="G2419", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" written|strong="G1125" through|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" prophets|strong="G4396" concerning|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G3956" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" completed|strong="G5055". 32 For|strong="G1063" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" delivered|strong="G3860" up|strong="G3860" to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Gentiles|strong="G1484", will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" mocked|strong="G1702", treated shamefully, and|strong="G2532" spit|strong="G1716" on|strong="G1716". 33 They|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" scourge|strong="G3146" and|strong="G2532" kill him|strong="G3588". On|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" third|strong="G5154" day|strong="G2250", he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" rise|strong="G2250" again|strong="G2532".” 34 They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said. 35 As he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging. 36 Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant. 37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 He cried out, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him, 41 “What|strong="G5101" do|strong="G4160" you|strong="G4771" want|strong="G2309" me|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2443" do|strong="G4160"?” He said, “Lord, that I may see again.” 42 Jesus said to him, “Receive|strong="G4102" your|strong="G2532" sight|strong="G3588". Your|strong="G2532" faith|strong="G4102" has|strong="G4102" healed|strong="G4982" you|strong="G4771".” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
