Luke 6

1 Now on the second Sabbath after the first, he was going through the grain fields. His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands. 2 But some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?” 3 Jesus, answering them, said, “Haven’t|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3739" read what|strong="G3739" David|strong="G1138" did|strong="G4160" when|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" hungry|strong="G3983", he|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3739" were|strong="G1510" with|strong="G3326" him|strong="G3588", 4 how|strong="G5613" he|strong="G2532" entered|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316"’s house|strong="G3624", and|strong="G2532" took|strong="G2983" and|strong="G2532" ate|strong="G2068" the|strong="G2532" show|strong="G2983" bread, and|strong="G2532" gave|strong="G1325" also|strong="G2532" to|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3739" were|strong="G3588" with|strong="G3326" him|strong="G3588", which|strong="G3739" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" lawful|strong="G1832" to|strong="G1519" eat|strong="G2068" except|strong="G1487" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" priests|strong="G2409" alone|strong="G3441"?” 5 He said to them, “The|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G5207" is|strong="G1510" lord|strong="G2962" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G2532" Sabbath|strong="G4521".” 6 It also happened on another Sabbath that he entered into the synagogue and taught. There was a man there, and his right hand was withered. 7 The scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise arose and stood. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I|strong="G1161" will|strong="G5590" ask|strong="G1905" you|strong="G5210" something: Is|strong="G3588" it|strong="G1161" lawful|strong="G1832" on|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1161" Sabbath|strong="G4521" to|strong="G4314" do|strong="G3004" good|strong="G3588", or|strong="G2228" to|strong="G4314" do|strong="G3004" harm|strong="G2554"? To|strong="G4314" save|strong="G4982" a|strong="G1487" life|strong="G5590", or|strong="G2228" to|strong="G4314" kill?” 10 He looked around at them all, and said to the man, “Stretch did, and his hand was restored as sound as the other. 11 But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus. 12 In these days, he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. 13 When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: 14 Simon, whom he also named Peter; Andrew, his brother; James; John; Philip; Bartholomew; 15 Matthew; Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus; Simon who was called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James; and Judas Iscariot, who also became a traitor. 17 He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases, 18 as well as those who were troubled by unclean spirits; and they were being healed. 19 All the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out of him and healed them all. 20 He lifted up his eyes to his disciples, and said: “Blessed|strong="G3107" are|strong="G1510" you|strong="G3754" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" poor|strong="G4434", for|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316"’s Kingdom is|strong="G1510" yours|strong="G5212". 21 Blessed|strong="G3107" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3754" who|strong="G3588" hunger|strong="G3983" now|strong="G3568", for|strong="G3754" you|strong="G3754" will|strong="G3748" be|strong="G3588" filled|strong="G5526". Blessed|strong="G3107" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3754" who|strong="G3588" weep|strong="G2799" now|strong="G3568", for|strong="G3754" you|strong="G3754" will|strong="G3748" laugh|strong="G1070". 22 Blessed|strong="G3107" are|strong="G1510" you|strong="G5210" when|strong="G3752" men|strong="G3588" hate|strong="G3404" you|strong="G5210", and|strong="G2532" when|strong="G3752" they|strong="G2532" exclude and|strong="G2532" mock you|strong="G5210", and|strong="G2532" throw|strong="G1544" out|strong="G1544" your|strong="G2532" name|strong="G3686" as|strong="G5613" evil|strong="G4190", for|strong="G1752" the|strong="G2532" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G5207"’s sake|strong="G1752". 23 Rejoice|strong="G5463" in|strong="G1722" that|strong="G3588" day|strong="G2250" and|strong="G2532" leap|strong="G4640" for|strong="G1063" joy|strong="G5463", for|strong="G1063" behold|strong="G2400", your|strong="G2532" reward|strong="G3408" is|strong="G3588" great|strong="G4183" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772", for|strong="G1063" their|strong="G2532" fathers|strong="G3962" did|strong="G4160" the|strong="G1722" same|strong="G1565" thing to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" prophets|strong="G4396". 24 “But|strong="G4133" woe|strong="G3759" to|strong="G3759" you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" rich|strong="G4145"! For|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" have|strong="G3748" received your|strong="G3588" consolation|strong="G3874". 25 Woe|strong="G3759" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210", you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" full now|strong="G3568", for|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" hungry|strong="G3983". Woe|strong="G3759" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" laugh|strong="G1070" now|strong="G3568", for|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" will|strong="G2532" mourn|strong="G3996" and|strong="G2532" weep|strong="G2799". 26 Woe|strong="G3759", when|strong="G3752" men|strong="G3956" speak|strong="G3004" well|strong="G2573" of|strong="G3962" you|strong="G4771", for|strong="G1063" their|strong="G2596" fathers|strong="G3962" did|strong="G4160" the|strong="G3956" same thing|strong="G3956" to|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3956" false|strong="G5578" prophets|strong="G5578". 27 “But|strong="G3588" I|strong="G3004" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" hear: love your|strong="G4160" enemies|strong="G2190", do|strong="G4160" good|strong="G2573" to|strong="G3004" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" hate|strong="G3404" you|strong="G5210", 28 bless|strong="G2127" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" curse|strong="G2672" you|strong="G5210", and|strong="G3588" pray|strong="G4336" for|strong="G4012" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" mistreat|strong="G1908" you|strong="G5210". 29 To|strong="G1519" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" strikes you|strong="G4771" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" cheek|strong="G4600", offer|strong="G3930" also|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" other|strong="G3361"; and|strong="G2532" from|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" takes away your|strong="G2532" cloak|strong="G2440", don’t|strong="G3588" withhold|strong="G2967" your|strong="G2532" coat|strong="G2440" also|strong="G2532". 30 Give|strong="G1325" to|strong="G2532" everyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" asks you|strong="G4771", and|strong="G2532" don’t|strong="G3588" ask him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" takes away your|strong="G4674" goods to|strong="G2532" give|strong="G1325" them|strong="G3588" back|strong="G1325" again|strong="G2532". 31 “As|strong="G2531" you|strong="G5210" would|strong="G2309" like|strong="G2531" people|strong="G4160" to|strong="G2443" do|strong="G4160" to|strong="G2443" you|strong="G5210", do|strong="G4160" exactly so|strong="G2443" to|strong="G2443" them|strong="G3588". 32 “If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G5210" love those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" love you|strong="G5210", what|strong="G4169" credit|strong="G5485" is|strong="G1510" that|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210"? For|strong="G1063" even|strong="G2532" sinners love those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" love them|strong="G3588". 33 If|strong="G1437" you|strong="G5210" do|strong="G4160" good|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" do|strong="G4160" good|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210", what|strong="G4169" credit|strong="G5485" is|strong="G1510" that|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210"? For|strong="G1063" even|strong="G2532" sinners do|strong="G4160" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G2532". 34 If|strong="G1437" you|strong="G5210" lend|strong="G1155" to|strong="G2443" those|strong="G3588" from|strong="G3844" whom|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" hope|strong="G1679" to|strong="G2443" receive|strong="G2983", what|strong="G3739" credit|strong="G5485" is|strong="G1510" that|strong="G2443" to|strong="G2443" you|strong="G5210"? Even|strong="G2532" sinners lend|strong="G1155" to|strong="G2443" sinners, to|strong="G2443" receive|strong="G2983" back|strong="G2983" as|strong="G2532" much. 35 But|strong="G2532" love your|strong="G2532" enemies|strong="G2190", and|strong="G2532" do|strong="G2532" good|strong="G5543", and|strong="G2532" lend|strong="G1155", expecting nothing|strong="G3367" back; and|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" reward|strong="G3408" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" great|strong="G4183", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" children|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G2532" Most|strong="G5310" High|strong="G5310"; for|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" kind|strong="G5543" toward|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" unthankful and|strong="G2532" evil|strong="G4190". 36 “Therefore be|strong="G1096" merciful|strong="G3629", even|strong="G2531" as|strong="G2531" your|strong="G3588" Father|strong="G3962" is|strong="G1510" also|strong="G5210" merciful|strong="G3629". 37 Don’t judge|strong="G2919", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G2532" won’t be|strong="G2532" judged|strong="G2919". Don’t condemn|strong="G2919", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G2532" won’t be|strong="G2532" condemned|strong="G2613". Set|strong="G2532" free, and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" set|strong="G2532" free. 38 “Give|strong="G1325", and|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" given|strong="G1325" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G5210": good|strong="G2570" measure|strong="G3358", pressed|strong="G4085" down|strong="G4085", shaken|strong="G4531" together|strong="G4531", and|strong="G2532" running|strong="G5240" over|strong="G1519", will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" given|strong="G1325" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G5210". For|strong="G1063" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G3739" measure|strong="G3358" you|strong="G5210" measure|strong="G3358" it|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" measured|strong="G3354" back|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G5210".” 39 He spoke a parable to them. “Can|strong="G1410" the|strong="G2532" blind|strong="G5185" guide|strong="G3594" the|strong="G2532" blind|strong="G5185"? Won’t they|strong="G2532" both|strong="G2532" fall|strong="G1706" into|strong="G1519" a|strong="G2532" pit|strong="G2532"? 40 A|strong="G5613" disciple|strong="G3101" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" above|strong="G5228" his|strong="G3956" teacher|strong="G1320", but|strong="G1161" everyone|strong="G3956" when|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" fully|strong="G2675" trained|strong="G2675" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" like|strong="G5613" his|strong="G3956" teacher|strong="G1320". 41 Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G5101" you|strong="G4771" see the|strong="G1722" speck|strong="G2595" of|strong="G1722" chaff that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G1722" brother’s eye|strong="G3788", but|strong="G1161" don’t|strong="G3588" consider|strong="G2657" the|strong="G1722" beam that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G1722" own|strong="G2398" eye|strong="G3788"? 42 Or|strong="G2532" how|strong="G4459" can|strong="G1410" you|strong="G4771" tell|strong="G3004" your|strong="G2532" brother, ‘Brother, let|strong="G2532" me|strong="G3004" remove|strong="G1544" the|strong="G1722" speck|strong="G2595" of|strong="G1537" chaff that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2532" eye|strong="G3788",’ when|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" yourself|strong="G4771" don’t|strong="G3588" see|strong="G1227" the|strong="G1722" beam that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2532" own|strong="G3788" eye|strong="G3788"? You|strong="G4771" hypocrite|strong="G5273"! First|strong="G4413" remove|strong="G1544" the|strong="G1722" beam from|strong="G1537" your|strong="G2532" own|strong="G3788" eye|strong="G3788", and|strong="G2532" then|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" can|strong="G1410" see|strong="G1227" clearly|strong="G1227" to|strong="G2532" remove|strong="G1544" the|strong="G1722" speck|strong="G2595" of|strong="G1537" chaff that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2532" brother’s eye|strong="G3788". 43 “For|strong="G1063" there|strong="G1063" is|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3756" good|strong="G2570" tree|strong="G1186" that|strong="G4160" produces|strong="G4160" rotten fruit|strong="G2590", nor|strong="G3761" again|strong="G3825" a|strong="G1510" rotten tree|strong="G1186" that|strong="G4160" produces|strong="G4160" good|strong="G2570" fruit|strong="G2590". 44 For|strong="G1063" each|strong="G1538" tree|strong="G1186" is|strong="G3588" known|strong="G1097" by|strong="G1537" its|strong="G1537" own|strong="G2398" fruit|strong="G2590". For|strong="G1063" people|strong="G3761" don’t|strong="G3588" gather|strong="G4816" figs|strong="G4810" from|strong="G1537" thorns, nor|strong="G3761" do|strong="G1063" they|strong="G3588" gather|strong="G4816" grapes|strong="G4718" from|strong="G1537" a|strong="G3756" bramble bush. 45 The|strong="G2532" good|strong="G3588" man|strong="G2588" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" good|strong="G3588" treasure|strong="G2344" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G2532" heart|strong="G2588" brings|strong="G4393" out|strong="G1537" that|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" good|strong="G3588", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" evil|strong="G4190" man|strong="G2588" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" evil|strong="G4190" treasure|strong="G2344" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G2532" heart|strong="G2588" brings|strong="G4393" out|strong="G1537" that|strong="G3588" which|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" evil|strong="G4190", for|strong="G1063" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" abundance|strong="G4051" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" heart|strong="G2588", his|strong="G2532" mouth|strong="G4750" speaks|strong="G2980". 46 “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G4160" you|strong="G3739" call|strong="G2564" me|strong="G1473", ‘Lord|strong="G2962", Lord|strong="G2962",’ and|strong="G2532" don’t do|strong="G4160" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G3739" which|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" say|strong="G3004"? 47 Everyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G5101" comes|strong="G2064" to|strong="G4314" me|strong="G1473", and|strong="G2532" hears my|strong="G3956" words|strong="G3056" and|strong="G2532" does|strong="G4160" them|strong="G3588", I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G5101" show|strong="G4160" you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G5101" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664". 48 He|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G1096" man|strong="G3739" building|strong="G3618" a|strong="G1096" house|strong="G3614", who|strong="G3739" dug|strong="G4626" and|strong="G2532" went|strong="G2532" deep and|strong="G2532" laid|strong="G5087" a|strong="G1096" foundation|strong="G2310" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" rock|strong="G4073". When|strong="G1161" a|strong="G1096" flood|strong="G4215" arose|strong="G1096", the|strong="G2532" stream broke against|strong="G1909" that|strong="G3739" house|strong="G3614", and|strong="G2532" could|strong="G2480" not|strong="G3756" shake|strong="G4531" it|strong="G2532", because|strong="G1223" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" founded on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" rock|strong="G4073". 49 But|strong="G1161" he|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3739" hears and|strong="G2532" doesn’t|strong="G3588" do|strong="G4160", is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G1096" man|strong="G3361" who|strong="G3739" built|strong="G3618" a|strong="G1096" house|strong="G3614" on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" earth|strong="G1093" without|strong="G5565" a|strong="G1096" foundation|strong="G2310", against|strong="G1909" which|strong="G3739" the|strong="G2532" stream broke, and|strong="G2532" immediately|strong="G2112" it|strong="G2532" fell|strong="G4098"; and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" ruin|strong="G4485" of|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" house|strong="G3614" was|strong="G1510" great|strong="G3173".”
